Outlook: Favorite Folders
Published on 4th October 2005
The latest version of Outlook seems to have arrived on most of our clients desktops now, and we hope you like it.
One of the major new features is how the Navigation pane on the left of the screen helps you see your information in lots of ways (Bonus tip: if you want to see your folder list in the old way, use the Folder List button in the bottom left-hand corner).
At the top of the Navigation Pane is a box listing Favorite Folders (forgive the American spelling, but that is what it says!). This is useful when you have lots of folders for your emails, but you only have a few that you use regularly. By adding the folders you use most to Favorite Folders you can get at them straight away, and avoid having to scroll and double-click your way to them.
ADDING A FOLDER TO FAVORITE FOLDERS
- Simply find the folder amongst your list
- Click it with the right mouse button
- Choose 'Add to Favorite Folders'
The folder will now be listed in the Favorite Folders box as well.
To Remove a Folder from Favorite Folders
If a folder is no longer used that often:
- 1) Find it in your Favorite Folders
- 2) Click it with the right mouse button
- 3) Choose 'Remove from Favorite Folders'
Take care not to give the Delete command as this puts the whole folder in the bin!
Other Options
Folders added to Favorite Folders are put at the bottom of the list, but you can change the order as follows:
- Find the Favorite Folder you want to move
- Click it with the right mouse button
- Choose 'Move up in list' or 'Move down in list' as required
The folder will be moved one position.
Note
Favorite Folders are different to Favorites in Internet Explorer and Windows. You can't add an Outlook folder to Favorites, and non-outlook items can't be added to Favorite Folders.
